Version 2 NSF network data

We are currently producing a new version of NSF network data, named "Version 2"*. Compared to the currently published version (Version 0), Version 2 data will have a higher accuracy and feature a larger number of data products. In addition, each measured UV spectrum will be complemented with a model spectrum that has been calculated with a radiative transfer model.

Status as of 4/2/2010:

  • McMurdo Station:
Version 2 data of our entire McMurdo data set (December 1989 - March 2009) can be downloaded here. A paper introducing Version 2 McMurdo data has been published by Journal of Geophysical Research and can accessed here.
  • Palmer Station:
Version 2 data of our entire Palmer data set (March 1990 - February 2009) can be downloaded here. A manuscript introducing
Version 2 Palmer data has been published in the proceedings of the SPIE conference "Optics and Photonics" and can be downloaded here.
  • South Pole Station:
Version 2 data of our entire South Pole data set (October 1990 - March 2009) can be downloaded here. A paper introducing the new data set has been published by Journal of Geophysical Research and can accessed here.
  • Ushuaia:
Version 2 data for Ushuaia (November 1998 - November 2008) can be downloaded here. More documentation will become available during the next months, funding pending.
  • San Diego:
We are currently not planning to produce Version 2 data for San Diego.
  • Barrow:
Version 2 data of our entire Barrow data set (January 1991 - November 2009) can be downloaded here. A publication introducing this data set has been published by Journal of Geophysical Research and can accessed here.
  • Summit:
Version 2 data of Volumes 14 - 19 (2004-2009) from Summit can be downloaded here. More information is available here, including a paper published in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.

    New corrections:
The following corrections have been implemented in Version 2:

A detailed description of these corrections can be found here.

    New data products:
The following data products are part of Version 2:

A detailed description of these data products, including example files can be found here.

    Radiative transfer model:
Model calculations that are part of Version 2 were performed with the radiative transfer model UVSPEC/libRadtran. More about the model implementation can be found here.

    Documentation:

    • The procedure of converting Version 0 data to Version 2 data has been described in a paper introducing the Version 2 data set from South Pole that has been published by Journal of Geophysical Research. The paper is available here.

    Where is "Version 1"?
Version 1 does not exist. As the original (=first) version was called "Version 0" rather than "Version 1," we decided to call the new version "Version 2" to avoid confusion.

We encourage you to share your opinion about Version 2 with us. Your input will help to make this new data product better.
